Quoth him who saw, or perhaps did not see, him indeed who heard, or didn't, or whatever:Matthew 10:34-35 "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.This sword he talks about. Is it merely the antipode of peace? A Manichean understanding of the new testament would have this be so. Perhaps it is the case that the sword is not the equal in quality and doppelganger otherwise of peace. The peace of repose, for instance, or of certainty; these aren't Jesus, he is the violent passion of the encounter with the divine. Advocacy for ecstatic worship.
