I got a certificate last week.... posted on October 12, 2009 - 9:07pm
welllll - technically Jason did, but he only got it because of me! Every week a child in each class from KG1 to year 6 gets a certificate and they get to go on stage and their name gets mentioned in the newsletter and it's a HUGE thing in their lives. Well - it was Jason's turn this week and he got a certificate for "always bringing food for Lucky our school pet rabbit". This rabbit and I don't get on. At ALL! I always thought rabbits were cute, fluffy and generally very mild mannered animals - hence most kids have a rabbit as a pet at some stage of their life. Hah - I was sooooooo wrong! Lucky has come to our house twice for the holidays now and I have to say....I'm QUITE terrified of her!!!!

It was One Web Day last week.... posted on September 29, 2009 - 11:09am
...the 22nd of September to be precise. Basically - it's a celebration of the internet and users of the WWW are encouraged to show how the internet affects their lives. Following is an excerpt from an article published in Yes Magazine : - On September 22, people worldwide participated in the fourth annual celebration of OneWebDay 2009. Through education and activism, a globally distributed network of activists, educators, entrepreneurs, and creatives coordinated their efforts to deliver a simple message: Everyone, regardless of their socioeconomic status or where they live, should have access to fast, affordable Internet service and to the skills and tools they need to empower their communities and improve their lives through 21st century communications.
15 years later.... posted on September 16, 2009 - 5:47pm
...I have FINALLY figured out predictive texting on mobile phones!! Many, many people have tried to show me how it works but I've never figured it out until today over coffee at school. (Yes - the chairman of the board puts on coffee for the parents every morning after drop off...FREE!) Someone was trying to explain how Suduko works and Ninna and I were giggling because we have no clue (and still don't) how to play it. Then we got onto Rubik's cubes...I used to peel the stickers off and restick them. She used to actually take the whole thing apart! Smile Then I admitted that I can't use predictive text on my phone! Well - that was embarassing!!! I've had a phone with a "qwerty" keyboard for ages so I never really needed to know how to. Thats my excuse anyway!!
I've gone organic... posted on September 15, 2009 - 8:51pm
....however I'm going to admit that I haven't gone organic because of the whole "free of synthetic inputs" etc. I've discovered they D E L I V E R your fruit, veg, honey, coffee and various herbs!!!! Initially I was a bit skeptical and had fears of these veggies arriving on my doorstep looking like they hadn't seen soil never mind chemicals!!! Previously I bought my fruit and veg at Shoprite and had to make a dash there after fetching Jason from school so I could get there just as their veggie delivery arrived. If I got their any other day they never seemed to have lettuce / banana's etc! Occasionally I would ask Rose to go to her local market for me and get some mangoes on her way to work but on the whole fruit and veg buying was always a bit of a hit and miss.

Apple Inc and Me... posted on September 13, 2009 - 8:14pm
I dunno if I just have a mental block when it comes to all things Apple or if Apple are just out to befuddle me. I like to think of myself as an above average electronics user. I'm not the type that is too scared to do anything out of the ordinary on my laptop / desktop and am inquisitive when it comes to new software. Apple Mac's on the other hand, give the flipping heebies jeebies!!! I can never find what I'm supposed to be looking for and it just seems so arse about face!!
Never a dull moment.... posted on September 11, 2009 - 1:48pm
Riots have broken out in Kampala. We're into the second day - and depending on which newspaper you read, there have been 3 or 7 or 10 people killed. Scores have been injured. Basically - it's because the Kabaka (the Buganda King) wants to go and visit Kayunga (a district) and there's a dispute over the area so Buganda supporters are a bit miffed about it. I think anyway.... The Reuters story is here Stupid thing is, until Mike came home VERY early yesterday evening I had noooo idea what was going on. Collected the kids from school as normal, did a bit of grocery shopping, went to a friends house and drank wine while the kids played. A normal day really...!!!
Go Winston!!!!! posted on September 9, 2009 - 10:55pm
Winston, a homing pigeon, has made history by beating a Telkom ADSL line in delivering 4GB of data from Howick to Hillcrest (about 70km), outside Durban in just 2 hours 6 minutes and 57 seconds, whereas the ADSL download was "still just under four percent complete". Source: - www.news24.com/Content/SciTech/News/1132/1bc8b09e39b043928317dc769d4196e... Imagine if it was UTL being pitted against Winston....bwahahahahahaha!!!! They'd probably still be waiting for page to load properly LOL!!
Perhaps a little simplistic but you get the drift...? posted on September 9, 2009 - 10:37pm
It was meet the teacher night at school tonight and I got given this....It's by a man called Robert Fulghum and is an excerpt from his book All i really need to know, I learned in kindergarten. I wouldn't mind getting the book one day...*hint hint* (It's never too early to start your Christmas shopping Wink ) ALL I REALLY NEED TO KNOW about how to live and what to do and how to be I learned in kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate-school mountain, but there in the sandpit at Kindergarten. These are the things I learned: Share everything. Play fair. Don't hit people. Put things back where you found them. Clean up your own mess. Don't take things that aren't yours. Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
