THIRD FLOOR -- I got two letters from the police this week. The first was a belated Christmas card, personally signed by the Inspector General, Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura, bless his soul, to me and my family. The card went to the ornamental table, next to the rest of the batch from workmates, sources, clients, etc. The second letter, copied to two workmates, was less pleasant and more direct: it was a summons to present ourselves at the Criminal Investigations Directorate to assist the police investigations that a story we published in the paper was prejudicial to national security. To that uninitiated, that would be section 37 of the penal code act of Uganda. Maximum sentence? Seven years.

Guess who I met at Quality Supermarket on Saturday and who chatted with my Mom, sis, her kids and I as we wrapped wedding gifts for our friends. He had to chat with us after Mom told him we were whispering about him and how we had seen him on TV. Former army spokesman, Major Felix Kulaigye. He said, "I hate being recognised by people when I have no idea who they are.""As a public figure, expect that to happen to you all the time," said my Mom."As soon as I saw the number plate, I knew there was an unusual person around," I said to him.

I cant believe 2k8 is finally over. i must say its been the shortest year of my life filled with all sorts of happenings. For starters, i made so many new friends. Had too many parties in my house that i have decided come 2k9 i'll charge everyone who wants to hold a party there. Been to almost all the bars in town and most of the highly billed social events in town. Enough of all that sh*t. The weekly rock night and friday binges, a'ma drop them to once or twice a month in the new year.

It got us curious and probing, until we discovered what she had done; she had asked for 'some'.Note to self;Something must be seriously wrong with my brother so keep an eye on him the next year to be sure all his faculties, especially the sexual ones, are in proper functioning order.

The problem with . . . posted on December 28, 2008 - 4:41pm

The problem with being black in Asia is that you stand out and everyone remembers you after they meet you only once. On the other hand, all Chinese people look alike so you forget everyone. You come off as rude while they're extremely nice people. The problem with being my age in India is that everyone expects you to be married. So if they ask your age, they ask where your husband is; NOT whether you have one or not. And after realising you're not married, they look at you weird like no one in the world wants you.The problem with living with parents who are stuck in their ways is that they will always remind you of the things they had fulfilled that you haven't. My mother (because I can't compare myself to my father who is a man) at my age had fought a war, had three children and a husband, and was an international traveler as part of her job. In her mind I am selling myself short. The problem with having such a large family is that they are a reminder of time as it passes you by.

I know I said I don't make new year resolutions but there are certain faults that I must mend if I am to have a prosperous new year as all the christmas cards I have received wish me to. Before I proceed I would live to make it abundantly clear that when I put my mind on doing something I more often that not see it out to its full conclusion(Ask the women). While we are on the subject I would also like to point out if I may that the fulfillment of any goal is based on the firm belief of a positive outcome, any doubts or misgivings will most certainly put paid to your ambitions. That said you need to have steadfast faith in your abilities to acheive your dream and you must never waver even in the face of great adversity, it's called perseverance and it can be demonstrated by this little fact I learnt from a Chinese bamboo grower.

Sometimes, I sit back and speculate on factors responsible for the way I turned out. I come up with lots of ideas. The one that appeals to me most is that my present day character is a mixture of all the things I've been in past lives. Every facet of me is a remnant of a whole personality that once existed.Having settled on this explanation, through a lot of research and hard work , I came up with a list of the more recent lifetimes; 1. A hoochie. (complete with pink feathers)2. A vampire bounty hunter, complete with the leather outfit and dominatrix boots3. A raving beauty who became a recluse coz she was causing riots. And finally...4. A nobel laureate (can't figure out what for yet).5. A nymph (wood spirit)

Is there a reason a carrot dangled in my sight and then was maliciously snatched away? Is there a reason I'm praising 'in spite of my circumstances'? Is there a reason I have to keep reminding myself that even King David worshipped when he didn't feel like, that the Israelites sang praises when they were surrounded by enemies on every side, that the praise of Jericho brought the walls down? Is there a reason? I'd like to know please. Thank you.

Do you believe in miracles? posted on December 24, 2008 - 5:28am

How can you not? When miraculous things happen around us all the time, how do we dismiss them so trivially? I know I believe. Not when I got stuck in a train station in Singapore and a stranger took me in a cab and paid for it too. I didn't know him but he seemed stuck too and so we made our way together but I had no money and without asking he took care of it. I believe God placed him in my way to show me the miraculous. Thank you Hwan, God richly bless you.How can I not believe in miracles when everything I pray for, I get an answer that is totally unexpected and yet bigger than I could have imagined? How could I not? When the ATMs were not working and I took time out to get into my 'prayer closet' and after my time with Him I got money out I didn't even know I had. Miraculous happenings, not coincidence. And how can I not believe in miracles when I know that the God I serve has a sense of humour and desires to make Himself known to us?

I think migratory birds are an inspirational symbol, and if I had to pick one thing that most-embodies hope, I’d choose the migratory bird. It would also be my symbol for luxury: if it gets cold Up There, head Down There.Unfortunately, the humans Up There also figured out how to fly to Down Here when it gets cold Up There. As a result, there is a band of chain-smoking Greeks who are taking over my spot at the lake. Damn it. I own that place! The Greeks, they won’t leave anything alone, not even the markers I’m using to denote these points. On to ????, then.

I just can't get the song out of my head its such a catchy tune as the kind only Akon can churn out, i keep singing it unconsciously even when in the ............the video is well directed and gets u reminiscing about a lost love who used to mean so much but is lost forever. the theme of the video is money cant get u everything, when u have all the money in the world the one thing that will remain elusive is that one true love u cherish the most. Is it true that obscenely wealthy people have an empty hole in their hearts that can only be filled by a soulmate who is true and committed? that question is directed to Blogsville's tycoon, aint saying no names she knows who she is. If the divorce rate in Hollywood is anything to go by then one can surmise that the rich marry and date for publicity, status and more wealth and end up even more miserable than before.

Step By Step Instructions for French Braiding1. Take a somewhat small section of hair starting at the top of the person's head, whether it begins behind the bangs or the forehead.2. Separate the section of hair into three new sections. Braid these three sections of hair together.3. Collect two more sections of hair. The sections should be on opposite sides of the section that you have just braided together, one from the left and the other from the right. Now, braid these sections together.4. Continue this entire process until you have finished braiding the entire head.5. Use a ponytail holder or any other type of tie to hold the French braid together at the end. Please note that before you can begin to learn how to create a French braid hairstyle, you will need to know how to braid. There are many online tutorials about the process, but here is a very simplified version:

Steps to make Twist and Braid HairstyleTake a small section of hair on one side of your head, just above your ear, and divide it into two equal strands. Start twisting the two strands of hair together. Continue twisting downwards, towards the end of the hair.Secure the twist with a hair pin at the nape of the neck, then repeat these two steps on the other side.Next, incorporate the twisted sections into a basic three-stranded braid. To braid, simply split the hair into three equal strands, taking the twisted sections into left and right strands. Then bring the right strand ove rthe centre, and then the right over the centre again. Continuee in this manner to the end. Finally, secure the end with a covered band and decorate with a clip bow.
