Computer infected with a virus? posted on August 30, 2008 - 7:31pm
Caught A Virus? If you've let your guard down--or even if you haven't--it can be hard to tell if your PC is infected. Here's what to do if you suspect the worst. Heard this one before? You must run antivirus software and keep it up to date or else your PC will get infected, you'll lose all your data, and you'll incur the wrath of every e-mail buddy you unknowingly infect because of your carelessness. You know they're right. Yet for one reason or another, you're not running antivirus software, or you are but it's not up to date. Maybe you turned off your virus scanner because it conflicted with another program. Maybe you got tired of upgrading after you bought Norton Antivirus 2001, 2002, and 2003. Or maybe your annual subscription of virus definitions recently expired, and you've put off renewing.

Mateos From My Floor posted on August 30, 2008 - 12:32pm

Literally five minutes ago Uganda was on the tv. There I was sitting on the floor in front of the couch and this ad came on for a program called Family Footsteps (7:30pm Thursday ABC).So the ad starts with this crowded road full of Africans and I went "Hey Mum, look, UGANDA!!"And she glares at me for disturbing the peace and asks how I know. I shrug. Haven't got a clue how I knew. I just did. And I was bloody right to! As the ad progresses and they stop showing Ugandan infested roads the voice over comes on and "Blah blah, Uganda, blah." And I smile, radiating smugness for knowing it was Uganda after a split second. It continues to show this half Ugandan man who left for Australia when he was three years old and blah blah blah and you'll never guess what happened next :PI bounced right off the floor, pointing out the tv and practically screeched to my Mother, "look, LOOK! It's Mateos!!!" LOOOK MUM!!!! LOOK!!"

BHH Review posted on August 29, 2008 - 10:39am

After putting up the kalango (DeT: announcement) for BHH on the actual day of the event (see how these days it's an event for me) I turn up at 7.00pm and I am the only one for a full half hour. B2B had kindly put up the kalango and I was starting to wonder if anyone read his blog. I was sure they did what with all the comments on that particular post but no one, not even he had showed up by the time Carlo arrived at about 7.45pm. The next guy to show up was Benge Solomon of Node Six and I was so excited to meet him because his aggregator, Blog Spirit, has become my be all and end all for Ugandan blogs. So he and Carlo exchanged cards and I simply received one of his cards. Solomon, I am waiting for my tracker. B2B then finally showed up with Channel in tow and she had a camera so there should be some pics up on her blog soon, I hope. Ivan was the next to show up looking all cleaned up with a new haircut bambi. Ivan, good luck with the interview.

He has officially clinched the nomination..happened Wednesday night, Hillary releases all her delegates. They all say, Obama is the MAN! So, really, it was jus ta formality. So let Gore invite Obama, the guy gives his long awaited speech, and we all go to bed!

*crawls pitifully back to Blogger*Sorry. Been away. Been dying. Had a psycho bout of influenza. I won't tell you about it but suffice to say it was so bad I called Him up and cried into the phone and asked if he could swing by and kill me. End my miserable suffering. Most of the time I was so weak I couldn't even get out of bed.Moving on now :DA couple of months ago I managed to slam my head so hard into a door, no, don't ask what I was doing, I broke my nose. Thankfully it's barely noticeable. Second time I've broken it actually. First time my best-friend's sister slammed a baseball bat in the my face. Nose is still in centre. Looks normal. Feels sore. Aches. Still got a red tinge to the skin, like slight sunburn. Doctor says it will fade within a couple more months and so should my headaches, and Doctor is right because both have already subsided.I'm back now. Tell you fun stuff on my next post.Sleep well.

My friends back home are all getting pregnant and having babies at the moment. I guess that’s what happens around this time of life for some people. (For the record, I am not pregnant.) To add to the baby craze, however, all of the animals around me have been making their own contributions to the world population. We have our own mini-farm here, and apparently giving birth is the standard procedure for animals in August. A couple of weeks ago, our six-month old cat gave birth to three kittens. (I had no idea cats could get pregnant so young!!)
Fred Mukisa’s notion of Fisheries Governance is Archaic posted on August 27, 2008 - 12:52pm
Fred Mukisa, the Fisheries State Minister has allowed his frustration over chronic under-funding to fisheries sub-sector to impair his objectivity and perception as to how fisheries resources should be managed. Mr. Mukisa is irritated, and rightly so, by a paltry 2bn shilling fisheries budget despite the sub-sector being the second highest income source to the Government. Apparently, he seems to believe that unleashing a tighter central control over fishing licences and other potential money-making ventures will make up for his financial deficits. How absurd!

CHEATING AT LDC IS A SHAME TO THE LEGAL PROFESSION posted on August 26, 2008 - 4:59pm
The Law Development Centre (LDC), an institution that trains would -be judges, magistrates and legal counsels, is back in the news, again for the wrong reasons - examination malpractices. What a shame! We are aware that cheating is a common phenomenon at all levels in our education system, but for the vice to assume the magnitude reported at LDC, is a disgrace to the noble legal professional. The cheats at LDC are also an indictment of the moral decadence that is entrenched in our society. It’s common knowledge that in Uganda today, part of the adult population don’t want to work yet they want to live a lavish lifestyle! You find well built man begging for a Shs1,000 to buy a cigarette. Not that the guy is working so hard but earns so little. No- far from it. The chap is simply lazy and is addicted to handouts from his toiling peers.

Manipulating my father… posted on August 26, 2008 - 12:04pm

My father was a single dad. He raised my siblings and I by himself. Reason was probably because almost each one of us had his/her own mother. We were 7. Dolling out all the affection in equal quantities was not easy I imagine. Coz I saw some of my sisters get by ignored. Anyway, I was lucky to be among the favorites but even then, there were things I could not get away with. But one day it happened. And since then, I had my father on a short leash.
He had two beds in his bedroom. The second bed was for each one of us to sleep in when we got sick so he could keep an eye on us, but he also used it as a ploy to throw us off when he brought a lady friend that stayed the night. Infact, in the morning, said lady friend would slide into second bed to make it all believable. Not that we believed it or anything, but he carried on the charade. And we played along.

One of the greatest tragedies of the war in northern Uganda over the past twenty years is the devastation it has inflicted on the civilian population and especially on the youth. Throughout most of the conflict, the LRA rebels employed a strategy which terrorized those living in Internally Displaced Person (IDP) camps by abducting youth—both boys and girls—to use as child soldiers and wives for the older soldiers. Many were kidnapped directly from their villages and from the IDP camps where they were supposed to have been protected from rebel attack.

I'm empty. no rage, no happiness. Searching for that 'elusive obvious'. Read that in a book long time ago, Can't remember what it was in reference to but sure fits my situation. Let me think, 'what's to look forward to?' Hmmm...nothing.I should start writing the great African novel. I promise to make it dark and twisted so that pips can think I was Shakespeare's cuz or something. I think the sicker, the better. Problem is, I have a rebellious spirit, heart too. The rest of me has agreed to be evil for the rest of my life, The aforementioned won't comply. How, do I know? Well.. the horror stories I write end with the heroine falling in luv with the ugly, dark twisted thing that's been pursuing her the entire time. And she nurses his hurt and heart and then they run away together to start a life away from the cruel world.Embarrassing, isn't it. Anyways, I've made up my mind: today, ama start writing the ultimate horror story.

You know, I may end up picking up a book from some "business guru" or the like. But I won't.If I'm going to read anything for my business edification, I know where to find it. For the curious, it is between Ecclesiastes and Psalms—common sense distilled into Semitic dichotomous verse. Consider Proverbs 17:8A bribe is like a magic stone in the eyes of one who gives it;wherever he turns, he prospers. No education is complete without that. I know about Proverbs 17:23, too:The wicked accepts a bribe in secret,to pervert the ways of justice. But you notice the evil one, here, is the one who accepts the bribe to pervert justice—not the giver. I'll be a giver, certainly. Not a taker, but a giver.
