The Pains of a loyal associate posted on May 31, 2008 - 1:07pm

After a long period of service slaving away at the front of the battlelines of the place I call work, I looked up and realized with glee that it was the end of the month- my excitement heightened by the fact that my earnest hardwork had already brought in an amount 10 times my salary. I could not shake the nagging feeling that my commander-in-chief was going to send my home with only a handshake after all I had taken on their behalf but nonetheless, as I am trying to believe in the teachings of the secret, I tried to put my faith in believing that since the Almighty saw my work and is the rewarder of all, I would be given the medal of bonus alongside my handshake! I would return to my family, an honorary member of the work force with all my medalions in hand as evidence of all the long hours I had spent away from base.

I'm doing a review this time because Carlo said she was bored by her last one and might not do this one. (I am absolutely sure it is a gazillion times better than the one I am about to do)I'll start at the beginning.6.30pm found me there already, as always, with my new book in tow and a cup of coffee in front of me. Donald, a friend of mine, was walking by and I roped him in. He said he would be there only a few minutes although he ended up staying the whole time, either that says we were too interesting for him to tear himself away or we were too weird for him to tear himself away. Miss Tandra was next and I was shocked that someone other than Carlo was the second one there. Guess Tandra wants firsties in real life as well. Not to fear though Carlo was hot on her heels and already before 7.00pm we were already filling a table.

Advice on MonkeysUnlike the agriculture minister, Kibirige Ssebunya, who advised farmers being disturbed by monkeys to kill them for meat, trade and industry minister, Hajat Jane Mukwata knows a thing or two more about monkeys. Addressing people with disabilities in Kireka at a disability workshop [sic], she advised: "Many of you have monkeys disturbing you in your gardens. We have trained monkeys so that they do not harass your neighborhoods. Surrender your monkeys so that we can train them to enable you [to] earn even more money from them."

I can hear his voice right now
It chimes so very clearly
A voice treacly
Each sound distinct and clear
So slowly spoken
All words exact
All words crisp
Can you discern whose it belongs to?
My ray of sun that brings me warmth
His tone cradles me very well
Its silky brass jingles
Smoothly, sweetly
Like a daisy in bloom
As I long
For that day

Because you're all dying to know, I'm sure. We had absolutely no problem getting the cats home. We had all the necessary papers (in quadruplicate) and the officials at Entebbe were amazing (seriously) and in Amsterdam the KLM people let us know the cats were safely on the plane for the next leg and when we got to the States, Customs was a breeze. The cats were less than pleased with the situation, but they're settling in alright now. I think they're going to like their new clumping litter.

“It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known.”That is how one of the best ever written books ends. If you haven’t read ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ yet, pick it up immediately. I can’t believe it took me this long to read it. When I started it, I was afraid that I wouldn’t get it of fail to see what everyone went on about and it was a difficult first few pages but then Dickens describes a scene where wine spills on the cobbled streets of France and from then on I was taken in and there was no turning back.

“Bona Bagagawale” is a Miscarriage of Progress posted on May 20, 2008 - 12:17pm
The recent launch of Bona Bagagawale (prosperity for all) programme and the glamorous publicity it has attracted in the local media following the President’ mobilisational tour around the country has raised a storm of false expectation. Utterly false, because it is inconceivable how a paltry target of only 30 “model farmers” per Sub County will transform agriculture; a way of life for nearly 90% of Uganda’s human population. Ugandans may recall with embarrassment, how Government realized too late, that it could not proceed with the envisaged Bona Bagagawale because it hadn’t thought through how is would be implemented. Indeed, it was a subject of speculation for a while that Bona Bagagawale would dish money to farmers through SACCOs. This however hit a snag after realizing that there was no legislation to regulate the operations of SACCOs.

My sister,I remember you. I remember when you were so little; You were so little, you were so young. You were that little bundle of innocence,So pleasant to everyone. You laughed when a snake crawled around your legs. You chased after bees and grabbed at wasps. You imitated peacocks and barked back at dogs. When daddy playfully threw you in the air, you knew he would catch you. When you stole some sugar from the kitchen, you cheekily waited for mummy to discipline you.You were not afraid to get dirty; you knew mummy would clean you.You were not afraid if the neighbors’ kids laughed at you, you knew we loved you. When we asked you to sing, you were not afraid to dance too.You brothers and sisters were your best friends. Your family was your world.Your world was happy.

First Series of Cellphones In Uganda... Approximately 10 years back when cellphones flocked the Ugandan community for the very first time, you had to trade one of your valuables to purchase one [US$555]. Maintaining the phone [credit and other assorted services] was also another story, you had to trade your next valuable or you had to work much harder. With this trend only a small percentage of Ugandans could afford cellphones. The Marketing personnel called it a new Innovation in the country, was it actually?

How To Get Two Cats Out of Uganda posted on May 19, 2008 - 1:56pm

Anyone know? It looks so easy on paper…because there doesn’t seem to be anything on paper. It’s one of those things where you have to know the right questions to ask, but are not sure where you find out which are the right questions. For example, it recently came to our attention that we need an exit permit from some ministry to get the cats out of Uganda. Now we’ve talked to a whole bunch of people about what we need to get the cats out of Uganda, but it was only on, like, the fourth conversation that someone mentioned this exit permit. So unless you know to ask, “Hey, is there some sort of exit permit we need to get from some random ministry (that our vet couldn’t even remember the name of) in Entebbe, for which we also need health certificates?” then I’m not sure how it really comes up. But why would you know to ask that specific question?

In depth length and in a more persuading manner am convinced beyond doubt we are all leaders wherever we are not neccessarily because there are numerous people we lead but because "exert" influence in one way or the other. What then makes you a smart leader? It is definite that most peole will follow good and smart leader because they can be trusted and for anything the follower has confidence the leader has answers.

Quoth him who saw, or perhaps did not see, him indeed who heard, or didn't, or whatever:Matthew 10:34-35 "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.This sword he talks about. Is it merely the antipode of peace? A Manichean understanding of the new testament would have this be so. Perhaps it is the case that the sword is not the equal in quality and doppelganger otherwise of peace. The peace of repose, for instance, or of certainty; these aren't Jesus, he is the violent passion of the encounter with the divine. Advocacy for ecstatic worship.
